Fear Itself Tie In's That Actually Tie In

So, I finally have been reading all the titles that have to deal with the storyline Fear Itself. It’s impressive so far and good, oh and surprising. It’s all about hammers, 8 of them in fact, that have fallen from the sky to give The Worthy powers like Thor. These Worthy are Sin the daughter of Red Skull, Thing from the FF, Absorbing Man who already had Asgardian powers, Attuma the Barbarian the enemy of Namor, Hulk, Grey Gargoyle, Titania, and Juggernaut. Now all 8 of these villains and the 2 heroes, have a hammer and the power of Thor but are pretty evil. It’s no surprise of the Hulk running around smashing things, he does that on a good day but for the Thing being evil is not a every day happening.

Though it’s been fun reading these titles, it’s not the part of the Thing and Hulk being evil that makes it surprising. What caught me off guard with this story is how the tie in titles actually tie in to the main story line. Not only does it tie into it but it actually picks up with parts from the main title. Over the years there’s been many, I mean many, story lines that have a limited series main title that ties into other core titles but for the majority of the time those tie in stories really didn’t do much than just mention what was going on. Nothing would happen in the tie in titles that affected the characters or the story at all, all that we readers would get is the pleasure of spending extra money on titles we normally don’t get because we were hoping to get a tie in story.

Not happening in Fear Itself and I’m loving it, all of it. Each of the tie in titles are getting stories that actually have to deal with the story of the hammers, what’s going on, and it affects the main character or characters of that tie in title. It’s nice knowing that I didn’t waste my money, which in this instance was a lot because nearly every title in the Marvel line up had to do with Fear Itself, so after buying all those titles, those many titles, spending all that money, getting to read about Fear Itself in those tie in is like getting a extra birthday gift when you thought you was all out.

As for the story itself, hmm still thinking on that. Currently I’m just now about half way through the reading of this very long set of titles of Fear Itself. There’s only 7 core titles of Fear Itself but there’s also about 5 issues each of all the tie in titles including all the limited series titles making for a very long list. But so far what has happened? Nothing really. The hammers have fallen, they’ve been picked up by the 8 people, the 8 people are just now attacking all around the world, and the heroes are trying to figure out what to do. That’s really about it, the fights just started and no one knows what to do, oh, Thor got a beat down by Odin right before Odin withdrew all of the Asgardians back to Asgard space to create a new land of Asgard to prepare for the Serpent who is the God of Fear. I thought Ares son Phobos but hey anything goes in the world of Marvel. At any rate, the story is progressing a little slow but it’s still a lot of fun to read and it’s reading pretty fast. Can’t wait to find out how this ends, which I think I already have an idea of one characters fate since I accidentally read about it, which sucks cause it spoiled a big surprise it would have been.
