UPDATE: The good folks over at What's Playing have an update on that Blue Crush sequel.

The production has nabbed down a director in Mike Elliott. He's had his hat in a number of direct-to-video projects ranging from Beethoven's Big Break to Wargames: The Dead Code.

Are we really surprised? Considering they've done plenty of direct-to-DVD sequels/spin-offs to American Pie and Bring It On, you shouldn't be.

What's Playing reports Universal is currently underway on home-video aimed follow-ups to Blue Crush (the surfer-girl drama starring a pre-Lois Lane Kate Bosworth) and Honey (the dance movie headlined by Jessica Alba back in her days when everyone thought she was the shit!)

Both will start filming at the end of next month. So expect to see them at the dollar-bin at K-Mart by the end of September.
