“The Windsors: From George to Kate” is a documentary about Britain’s royal family during the modern era. It is narrated by Brian Blessed and this documentary showcases the history of the House of Windsor from 1935 to the present. In the documentary, there was a lot of live footage shown as well as simple explanations for such a complex family. This would be the perfect DVD to show a history class that is studying Britain’s history and famous monarchy.

“The Windsors: From George to Kate” was a well crafted documentary. I liked how a lot of live footage and extras were included to give the audience a different look at the royal family. They did a great job at explaining each of the ceremonies and the reasons why they were so significant. In terms of extras, they included a 16 page viewer guide, biographies on some of the family members, extra footage from William and Kate’s wedding, a featurette about the royal family, and a lot of other bonus footage. The sound quality was pretty good, but the picture quality was average. Lastly, the length of the DVD was not too long, but was short enough to peak the average person’s interest, for the most part.

My major gripe with this documentary was the actual content. I do not follow the royal family and did not really want to learn too much about them in the first place. This made the documentary content very dry and boring to me. Also, they only gave you a surface view of the royal family. I would have liked to hear all the issues and controversy they dealt with to make the documentary more relatable and interesting. Leaving those events out made the documentary feel biased and not truly in-depth. However, if I were a royal family fanatic or a history class, this would be the perfect DVD to own and watch. For those reasons, I am giving this DVD a “C.”
