Show: Castle Season/Volume: 2 Starring: Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion, Seamus Dever, Jon Huertas, Tamala Jones Studio: ABC Studios Runtime: 1032 mins Release Date: September 21, 2010 Format: DVD Discs: 5 Rating: () Grade: B+ Ah, Castle…or as I like to call him, Nathan Fillon. Mal Reynolds to you Browncoats who just can’t let go. It’s good to see Castle is still rolling along. For those who are just tuning in, Castle is an enjoyable cop drama (with a decent amount of humor worked into the mix) starring Nathan Fillon as crime novelist Richard Castle and Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett. Castle works as a sort of creative consultant/attaché with the NYPD, offering his insights into the criminal mind. Katic is his reluctant point-person within the force. She’s the lucky one who gets stuck with him as her team is assigned cases around the city. At this point in the series, Castle has turned his working relationship with the NYPD into a new writing opportunity in the form of a book called “Heat Wave,” featuring Nikki Heat, a character obviously inspired by Detective Beckett. He’s enjoying a new boost of popularity, while Beckett isn’t sure if she likes or wants all the new attention within the precinct. Castle is the Remington Steele to her Laura Holt…or something like that. At any rate, they have a good working relationship, with the hint of something more possibly bubbling up from below the surface. Castle’s a player, even hitting on his daughter’s former babysitter when he doesn’t recognize her in her new career as a model. Beckett’s more by the book (naturally…oh and no pun intended), but there are glimpses here and there that her wall of professionalism might be weakening. All in all, this is fun show, mixing the natural chemistry of the cast with the traditional format of a crime procedural. This 5-disc set features every episode from season two along with on-the-set visits, behind-the-scenes features, deleted scenes, bloopers and more. Definitely worth checking out. |
