Show: Eureka Episode(s): Founder’s Day & A New World Genre: Comedy, Sci-Fi/Fantasy Starring: Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston, Niall Matter, James Callis, Jordan Hinson Network: SyFy Airdate/Time: July 9, 2010 9:00pm Rating: () Grade: B The townspeople of Eureka are back. In case you’ve missed the first three seasons of this sci-fi (and Syfy) show, Eureka features the adventures, inventions and mishaps of a city of geniuses in Oregon. Renegade robots, spontaneous combustion, and now time travel are all in a day’s work for Sheriff Jack Carter and Dr. Allison Blake, director of Eureka’s main techno-industrial complex, Global Dynamics. Playing as a sort of X-Files-lite (definitely not a slight, simply a reflection on the fact that it’s not nearly as dark or serious as most of the X-Files series), Eureka is actually a pretty fun show, with a solid cast and some enjoyable plotlines. Without giving too much away from this season’s first two episodes, the show seems to be jumping into time travel (and its various repercussions) feet first. And they’re bringing Gaius Baltar! Ahem, excuse me, James Callis from Battlestar Galactica. As a huge fan of BSG, it was wild to see Callis in a role that seems incredibly different from his turn as Baltar. He was one of the best and worst things about BSG (simply because his character was so capable of switching sympathies at the drop of a hat), so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the mix with Eureka. His character in these two episodes already feels a little more understated, but that’s not a bad thing at all. It appears that he’ll be rather central to the events of season four, at least as they’re being laid out in these two episodes. Suffice it say, if you’re a fan, you’ll definitely want to tune in this Friday, July 9 at 9pm EST. If you’ve never seen the show before, this might not be a bad time to jump in and give it a shot. |
