There have been plenty of candid camera shows on television that place unsuspecting citizens on the cruel end of a practical joke. However, none so far have done it way truTV’s Impractical Jokers does. Four friends, Sal, Joe, Murr, and Q, are each put in the same social situation and must do exactly what the others tell them or else fail the challenge. The loser after four challenges must then go through one more humiliating challenge set forth by the others. Can these challenges satisfy the joker in all of us or is Impractical Jokers laughably impractical?

The premiere episode has them all playing cashiers at a White Castle, asking people for signatures on the street, manning a tourist booth in Times Square, and working the register at Costco. All challenges require each joker to do what the others tell them, except for the signature challenge. That one requires them to get three signatures for petitions ridiculous petitions that were drawn up by the other members. Only when they open the envelope to ask a person for their signature do they realize what the petition is for.

What sets Impractical Jokers apart from the other candid camera type shows is that it isn’t afraid to push the limits of what’s accepted in society. These New Yorkers are more along the lines of the Jackass crowd and are aimed towards the college demographic. I must admit, seeing a guy trying to get a signature for making it legal to have sex with your cousin is pretty hilarious. Some of the reactions by average citizens caught up in the challenge are priceless as well.

Overall, Impractical Jokers is a nice change of pace from the typical candid camera type shows. The debut episode is definitely worth some laughs, and you’ll no doubt want to continue watching. Whether its crude sense of humor will last, however, depends on how interesting and varied they can keep the challenges. That being said, I look forward to future episodes.

Thanks for the article, Matt

Glad you laughed at the first episode of the show - hopefully, you'll enjoy the rest of the series too! We've got lots of fun challenges to come, including Six Flags, Ikea, teaching yoga and karate classes, and more.

Dude, you havent watched too many prank shows. Not funny at all. And they laugh at everything like its awesome and it just makes them stupider. I wanted to like it... didn't think I'd hate it. But wow that really was bad,

laughter...best medicine ever

I think this show is wonderful. I've had a chronic illness for the last 10 years. Every day it gets harder to find something to laugh at. But from the first episode, I have laughed my ass off. Once I laughed so hard I peed myself. This is good fun. No one is getting hurt. The jokes are on each other. I seriously suspect that" Mr. I Hated it" thinks its funny to see a drunk get on his ATV, try to do a jump, and slam into a cliff wall. he did live, barely. These 4 guys are great. They laugh at themselves. And their laughter is infectious. As I said laughing is good medicine. It makes me feel stronger. And it makes my husband smile to hear me laugh. I don't know about "Mr. I hated it". I do think that Sal, Joe, Murr and Q will live to see 100yrs. From the great state of Arizona, Best of luck.
P.S. Who says Dude anymore?
